Eid Mubarak

Okay, so maybe I'm a little late, but Eid Mubarak to all. Alhamdullilah, our family had a wonderful Eid celebration, filled with good food, great company, and surprisingly good weather.

Zayd decided that he wanted to dress like his Uncle Ismael (yes, Zayd has a say in his clothing selection) so we went with grey slacks, a sweater vest, and a crisp white shirt. I know I'm his mother, which makes me inherently biased, but I had to say that the kid looked fresh to death.

A mixture of nostalgia and not being able to find anything I really loved, led me to put on the outfit I wore a little over three years ago for our nikkah. It is still, by far, one of my favorite outfits, so i was happy. Pappa Khalid wore a nice grey suit.

Zayd received a plethora of gifts in the mail from his grandparents, and Mommy & Daddy got a lot of good stuff too- if I must say so myself. Most importantly, it was good celebrating yet another wonderful Ramadan. Our family is truly blessed to be in the presence of so many dynamic and loving couples. As much as we both get homesick sometimes, we have to admit that DC has been a good home for us.

Zayd, I Think You're Sleepy

13 Months

13 Month Update

Weight: 21lbs 10oz.

Words: Bye-bye, Da-dee, Night-Night, and a lot of babble.

Favorite Hobbies: Getting into anything and everything; taking diaper off and peeing in random places; sticking hand in toilet; throwing objects in toilet; screaming; running; anything that involves being in the presence of older children; ignoring Mommy; climbing on everything; going up and down the stair unassisted; bringing you a book to read, then walking away after page two.

Favorite Foods: Meat -- you name it, he loves it. Noodles, plums, peas, asparagus, salmon, breastmilk.

Teeth: Two top & two bottom.

Ramadan Mubarak!

The way it was looking, this was more so going to be an Eid Mubarak post! I pray that Allah accepts the prayers and fasting of all of the believers.

This photo pretty much sums my Ramadan up in a nutshell, and no, this is not a doctored photo. Zayd likes to throw things from his playpen onto my prayer rug while I make salaat. By the end of my prayer, it often looks like I'm an idol worshiper. If I don't put him in the pen, he tries to tackle me or grab my preyer rug and take off like a little banchee-- six in one hand, half a dozen in the other.

Ramadan with a toddler is a lot different than Ramadan pre-child. I spend a lot less time at the masjid, and the nights I do get there, I'm pleasantly surprised if Zayd can hang until Isha. it's different, but I know that this is yet another stage in my life. I try to utilize the last swatches of night and the early mornings before Zayd rises as much as possible. Alahamdullilah, this truly has been a blessed month. I've really enjoyed the quiet peacefulness of our household. I find myself getting lost in the little world that we've created. I'm so grateful for my guys.

We decided that wagon time was much more exciting than cleaning up that day.

Go to Bed Zayd

So it's 12:20AM, and my child is clapping in his crib and having a really heated debate with himself in baby talk. Go to bed Zayd! I know it's my fault. We spent the night over a friend's house last night, and we went to an amazing dinner party tonight. I know he's already off of his loosely based schedule. I guess that's why I've settled on just sitting in his room with him until he eventually falls out. Okay, he's back in protest mode. He just threw his blanket out of the crib. Now he has decided to lay down and kick the slates. Go to bed Zayd!

Okay, he's back up trying to be cute and social. I'm so not falling for it. Now he is running back and forth in his crib screaming and bouncing on his mattress. I'm going to bed. My kid is drunk with fatigue.. Goodnight Zayd. No, I don't want to talk to you right now. Maybe in the morning. Yes, you are really cute. No, I'm not picking you up. No, I'm not laughing with you. Yes, that is a wonderful trick; It will be even better when the sun comes up. You look like a little pacing penguin. You are delirious child. I'm going to bed. You are on your own man. Go to bed Zayd.

First Haircut

Zayd got his first hair cut on August 23. He totally cried like a baby . I was more so happy that I wouldn't have to fight with him to comb his hair any more. The barber wasn't really trying to "feel" my vision, but after a few talks and some animated gestures, he succeeded in giving Zayd the ultimate baby fro-hawk. I think my kid looks like a rock star.

Before
He knew something was going on, just not quite what.
The comb was never really his friend.
Oh the agony.
I think he hated all of us at this point.
After

Introducing the new Zayd, aka "Butt Butt", aka "This Is Why I'm Hot", aka " Stunt Man".
